Specialized Literacy Professionals as Literacy Leaders: Results of a National Survey

The Specialized Literacy Professionals SIG became the first special interest group to conduct and fund a massive research effort. Led by SIG Chair, Dr. Rita Bean from the University of Pittsburgh, the team also included other SIG members: Jack Cassidy, Laurie Elish-Piper, Mae Lane, Virginia Goatley, Diane Kern, Mae Lane, Barbara Marinak, Pamela Mason, Evan Ortlieb, Diana Quatroche and Jennifer Shettel. In this study, over 2800 reading specialists/literacy coaches in the United States and other countries responded to questions about their role and responsibility, the challenges they faced, and the skill sets that they believed were important for success in their roles. The results of this research have been published in the journal Literacy Research and Instruction (Volume 54, Issue 2, 2015):

Multiple Roles of School-Based Specialized Literacy Professionals
