 2019

The 2019 session focused on ILA's Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals 2017  and featured Rita Bean, Diane Kern, Jacy Ippolito, and Allison Swan Dagen — four authors of the revised standards document. Special emphasis was placed on the following:
  • changes in the reading/literacy specialist and literacy coach role, and what it means for preparing professionals;
  • equity and advocacy;
  • disciplinary literacy implications within and beyond the standard; as well as, 
  • learners and the literacy environment, including digital literacy

2018

The SIG Session at the 2018 ILA Conference in Austin, TX focused on digital literacy. Presenters included Antero Garcia, Jill Castek, and Bridget Dalton. Materials provided by the presenters can be found below.

Antero Garcia, Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University shared information from the International Literacy Association's publication featured below. Antero was the principal author of the publication.

Bridget Dalton is an Associate Professor and Program Chair of Literacy Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Dr. Dalton participated as one of the digital specialist in our panel presentation at the 2018 ILA conference.  Her presentation titled, Specialized Literacy Professionals as Digital Literacy Leaders ​is available here. 


2017

At the 2017 ILA conference in Orlando, FL, our SIG session keynote speakers featured well-known researchers and authors Alfred Tatum, Jan Burkins, and Philip Wilder, who each addressed the important topic "Addressing Diversity through Literacy Coaching and Leadership." Audience response was very enthusiastic!! Slides of the presentations are included below:

2016

The SIG Session at the 2016 ILA Conference in Boston, MA was a big success! Presenters included Victoria Risko, Jack Cassidy, Douglas Fisher, Stephanie Grote-Garcia, Beverly Harris, Diane Kern, Barbara Marinak, Evan Ortlieb, Wolfram Verlaan, and Doris Walker-Dalhouse.
